Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned racer, you have several options from which to choose at NASA SoCal events.
TRACK DAYS AND TIME TRIAL
In NASA SoCal, a track day is called a High Performance Driving Event (HPDE).
HPDE is an instructional program for those who want to learn how to drive on a race track. HPDE includes instructor-led classroom and on-track training. All you need is a drivers’ license and a street car that meets the basic, ASE safety requirements.
Once you complete HPDE, you can apply for a Time Trial license. In Time Trial, you compete for the fastest lap with a high degree of safety and convenience. Time Trial runs in a “best lap time” format with advanced open-passing sessions, and bridges the gap between HPDE4 and wheel-to-wheel racing.

If you thrive on the adrenaline rush of wheel-to-wheel racing, you can attend comp school and earn your racing license. Racers can choose among several race series. All NASA classes nationwide abide by one set of rules, so everyone races on a level playing field. If you like a tight rules set and close competition, spec class racing is for you. Spec E30, Spec E46, and Spec Miata are just some of them. If you like a bit more freedom to innovate, you might prefer the Super Touring classes. Learn more about racing with NASA.
